Brussels Regional Public Service gears up for the future – with SAP S/4HANA

« Times are changing and so are we ». A message well understood by the Ministery of the Brussels Capital Region (BE) when they decided to rebrand and streamline their internal processes.

The objective: to raise the efficiency of every administration and help them collaborate more closely, as a way of providing Brussels citizens and businesses with better-quality services. The new called Brussels Regional Public Service (BRPS) found their ideal partner in Flexso in order to future-proof their organization.

Accommodating the complex IT needs of the Brussels-Capital Region

In line with that commitment, BRPS decided to launch a cohesive, forward-looking IT program. Up until that point, all the different entities had been using their own IT platforms – from SAP to in-house developed legacy systems. Converting to one single platform – one technology, one reporting tool, etc. – would definitely help them work together more closely while saving costs. Moreover, a new platform would be the perfect backbone for new developments in the future. Future-proofness was therefore one of the key requirements of the new IT system.

SAP S/4HANA: simple and definitely future-proof

After an in-depth assessment of the requirements and roadmaps, BRPS identified SAP S/4HANA as the best solution. Based on SAP’s HANA in-memory platform, SAP S/4HANA has redesigned all the functionalities of the existing SAP platform with a focus on simplicity. New features, which allow e.g. for more real-time insights, are combined with the intuitive SAP Fiori user interface, ensuring a very easy way of working. Moreover, S/4HANA opens the door to new possibilities.

More than challenging

The project ambitions were bold and the project was technically challenging. While two administrations would migrate from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA 1511, four other administrations had to onboard on the new SAP S/4HANA environment – from scratch.

BRPS decided to rely on Flexso consultants to take up the challenging project. Our commitment to new technologies like S/4HANA, our results-oriented approach, the strong cultural fit with the in-house team and our price won them over.

“This is a definitely a key milestone for SAP innovation in the public sector, and a very strong basis for future projects on the SAP regional platform.”

Alain Georgy - (Former) Managing Director SAP Belux
